South African wine guide Platter's 2022 announces the 5 stars top wines
17-11-2021This week, Platter's by Diners Club Wine Guide released the highly anticipated and prestigious list of wines to receive the maximum five-star rating in the new 2022 edition. The Platter's guide is the wine guide to South African wines, which is also called the bible of wine, wineries and vineyards of the Cape. Whether you're looking for something special like wine experiences, or you want to know which South African winery produces true classics, this is the guide to get.
Wines that achieve the coveted five-star rating at Platter's must undergo a rigorous process of with and without label sight assessments by a team of seasoned experts. Wines rated "Superlative, a South African Classic" receive the highest ranking of five stars, equivalent to 95 points or better on the 100-point rating scale. In the 2022 edition, no fewer than 234 wines will receive this award.
As in previous editions, red and white blends form the largest groups of award winners, with 46 and 27 individual labels respectively. Chenin Blanc, which has made a remarkable leap in quality in recent years, is then the largest category with 27 exceptional wines.
Chardonnay is doing particularly well this year, with 19 wines from various locations. Cabernet Sauvignon is also doing well, with 15 wines, the vast majority of which come from the Stellenbosch region.
“These are exciting times for South African wines in terms of quality and diversity; they have the ability to delight, fascinate and satisfy wine enthusiasts and collectors around the world. We are delighted and proud of our five-star line- up and want to take this opportunity to congratulate all producers on their outstanding achievement," said Philip van Zyl, acting managing director and editor of Platter's.
