Casanova Di Neri Montalcino
06-09-2021About a week ago we visited one of my favorite wineries. Casanova di Neri in the Montalcino area.
We were warmly welcomed by Giacomo Neri - son of the founder Giovanni Neri. The wine estate was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri who, with his great vision and passion, understood the enormous potential of wine in the territory of Montalcino.
We tasted four excellent wines: The Rosso 2019, the Brunello 2016, Tenuta Nuova 2016 and the flagship wine Cerretalto 2015, which was awarded 100 points by James Suckling. A magical wine with wonderful aging potential.
Currently, the estate covers an area of approximately 500 hectares, of which 63 hectares are vineyards, 20 hectares are olive groves and the rest is arable land and forest. In total there are 7 vineyards: Fiesole, Poderuccio, Podernuovo, Le Cetine, Pietradonice, Cerretalto and Spereta, all located in different parts of the territory of Montalcino.
The 63 hectares of vineyards are the core of the estate from which the extraordinary grapes that are the secret of their wines are produced. The diversity of the soils, exposures, microclimates and age of the vines creates the identity of their wines.
In the representative cellar of the estate on the road from Torrenieri to Montalcino, which is underground and functionally equipped, barrels of different sizes and types of wood are used for the aging of the wines in two large rooms on two levels. The fermentation takes place in open conical stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature and without the use of pumps. This ensures that the quality of the grapes is taken into account as much as possible. Only the best tannins are extracted and the color and fragrance of the plants are preserved.
