Weingut Schloss Reinhartshausen - Siegelsberg GG Schlossabfühlung 2015 (91 TSW)
The grapes for this come from the Erbacher Großes Gewächs Siegelsberg. The vineyard is 15 hectares, faces south and the soil is characterized by loess, loam and clay. The Riesling matured in large wooden barrels.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a medium golden yellow color.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of ripe yellow plums, yellow apple and citrus with hints of light cedar, smoke, pear, apricot and a whiff of petrol.
On the palate dry, medium(++) bodied with medium(+) acidity and intense round mouthfeel with lime, flint, lychee, apricot, spices and some grapefruit hints. Nice medium (+) length aftertaste. Already tasty but can age for a long time.
About the winery:
Schloss Reinhartshausen has been renowned for its Rheingau wines since 1337. However, since 2013, the winery has experienced a significant revival, mainly thanks to the centipede Stefan Lergenmüller. Together with his cellar master Martin Vogel, he makes exceptional wines.
The winery owns plots in some of the best locations in the Rheingau. One of these is the Große Lage Erbacher Siegelsberg, one of the wine region's top historic vineyards. In 2015, a beautifully ripe yet extremely precise Großes Gewächs was created here, described by Stefan Reinhardt of Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate as extremely "striking and elegant". At the International Wine Challenge, this wine not only received 96 points and a gold medal, but also took first place in the "German white wines" category.
