Weingut Rabl - Grüner Veltliner Alte Reben 'Ried Schenkenbichl' Kamptal Reserve 2016 (91 TSW)
The Rabl winery is located in Langenlois in the Kamptal, a side valley of the Danube, about 70 kilometers north-west of Vienna. The Rabl family can look back on a wine-growing tradition that started around 1750. Today, two generations are at the helm: Rudolf Rabl Senior, with his nearly 50 years of professional experience, occupies himself with vineyards, while his son Rudi deals with cellar and marketing.
The winery owns 80 hectares of vineyards and proves its worldwide reputation with an export share of 50%, which is also underlined by numerous awards and awards. The quality of the wines from their valuable "Einzellagen" (individual vineyards) is particularly important to the Rabls: Dechant, Schenkenbichl, Steinhaus and Käferberg are among the best classified plots that the Kamptal has to offer.
Here, in accordance with the guidelines of the DAC (Districtus Austriae Controllatus), only the traditional grape varieties grüner veltliner and riesling grow, which are vinified and controlled under strict regulations. Wines with the Kamptal DAC Reserve characteristic are the absolute top in quality. And these are the three principles according to which Rabl works and which they have imposed on themselves: 1. Only perfect grapes can produce top wines - 2. The must of perfect grapes can give you a lot of freedom. - 3. Don't be afraid of powerful wines!
My notes:
In the glass a citrus yellow color with golden rim.
On the medium nose aromas of yellow apple, pear, exotic fruits like ananas and mango with well integrated notes of vanilla, flowers and a touch of ceder.
On the palate dry, well balanced with lovely creaminess and freshness. Round in the mouth with nice layered complexity, honey and apricot. Great finish.
