Weingut Emrich-Schönleber - Grauburgunder trocken 'S' 2018 (89 TSW)
Next to the Grosser Gewachs wines with high scores Weingut Emrich-Schönleber also has a wide range of affordable wines with excellent quality. Today this is a Grauburgunder 'S from the Nahe wineregion. Father Wernet (vineyard) and son Frank (wine cellar) together manage the about 20,8 hectares of vineyard in this beautiful region.
This wine is clearly focused on one grape variety, namely Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris). Only impeccable grape material was supplied for this wonderfully elegant, single-varietal wine from Emrich-Schönleber. After harvesting, the grapes are immediately taken to the winery. Here they are sorted and carefully ground. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. After fermentation is complete, the Grauburgunder Quality Wine S can continue to harmonize on the fine lees for several months.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright copper color with golden reflections.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of ripe pear, apricot and peach with hints of fine herbs, mango, hazelnut and meadow flowers.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with medium(+) acidity and nice juiciness. Lively in the mouth with flavours like yellow apple, citrus, ripe peach, yeast and some tropical fruits. Nice medium(+) length finish.
This German wine is best drunk well chilled at 8 - 10°C. It is perfect as a side dish to vegetable salad with beetroot, leek tortilla or pasta with sausage dumplings.
