Weingut Bründlmayer - Grau- & Weißburgunder Spiegel 2015 (89 TSW)
The Austrian Weingut Bründlmayer, located in the Kamptal wine region, is among the top 10 in terms of white wine in Austria. It is a family business, Willi Bründlmayer took over from his parents in 1980. He attaches great importance to the natural balance in his vineyards and therefore does not use any chemicals.
The vineyards, with the grüner veltliner as the main grape variety lie mainly on terraces and rolling slopes on the banks of the river Kamp, near the mouth of the Danube. Protected against the cold north-westerly wind, the warmth of the sun on the stone floor during the day and the cooling through the fresh forest air at night.
My tasting notes:
The Spiegel is matured in large oak barrels made of Austrian oak.
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color with silver, green reflections.
On the medium nose aromas of papaya, apricot and pear with hints of biscuit, caramel and spices.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with nice light creaminess but also freshness (minerality) showing flavours of mango, peach and honey. Easy going in the mouth but with great elegance and harmony.
