Vina Vik Winery - Milla Cala 2016

Vik - Milla Cala 2016 (93 TSW)
Weekend vibes with this wine from Cachapoal valley - Chile. A great value red!
A blend of 67% Cabernet sauvignon, 17% Carmenère, 11% Merlot, 4% Cabernet franc and a splash of Syrah.
The Milla Cala is made from several plots from the 385 ha vineyard, which Viña Vik has available. For each grape variety, the ideal combination of terroir, rootstock and clone was deliberately sought. The soil is deep, porous decomposed granitic soil with good drainage.
The optimal blend is looked at each year depending on the available fruit. After manual harvesting and selection on the sorting table, the grapes undergo cold maceration for 3 days. The alcoholic fermentation at 29 ° C takes 15 days and 5 remounts per day ensure optimal extraction. The malo takes place in barrels, after which it is matured for 20 months in new French barriques of oak from Tronçais / Allier. Before bottling, the wine is lightly filtered.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a deep red color with crimson edges.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of dark berries, bold plums and cherries with delicious notes of chocolate, eucalyptus, vanilla, black pepper and cedar.
On the palate dry, full-bodied with enough freshness and rounded tannins. Concentrated flavours of ripe dark fruit, chocolate, mocca, vanilla and leather. Nice long and round juicy final.
Food pairing: Foie gras agnolotti in veal consommé, firm red meat, game dishes on various preparations with full sauces, stews with herbs, spices and sweet components, spicy, hard and blue cheese.
