Viña Vik Winery - La Piu Belle 2011 (93 TSW)
La Piu belle is a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Carmenere, 8% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot and a 1% splash of Syrah.
Artist of this beautiful label is Gonzalo Cienfuegos also born in Chile.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a light transparent dark ruby red color.
On the medium+ nose delicate aromas of ripe black fruit, smoky earth, chocolate, spices, toast and vanilla.
On the palate dry, medium bodied, extremly well balanced with a soft and round mouthfeel showing dark concentrated fruit with a great complexity. Medium tannins and an extreme long a delicious finish.
Alexander Vik and his wife had a dream. They wanted to create the best wine in South America. The entrepeneur from Norway built already luxury resorts in Uruguay and Chile with a great love for art and design. To find the best terroir, he gathered a team of oenologists, climatologists, geologists, viticulturalists and agronomists to search South America. In 2006, Alexander Vik chose the best terroir with optimal climatic conditions for grape growing and purchased 11.000 acres in Chile. (Only 20% of the grapes are used for VIK and the rest is sold to other wineries)
The vineyard, or “Place of Gold”, is located in the interior of the valley among innumerable gorges, offering a variety of unequaled terroir and small microclimates.
They made the excellent choice to put Patrick Valette in charge of the project. Valette was born in Chile, but in 1967 his French father, Jean-Paul, moved the household to Saint Émilion to take over the family winery, Château Pavie. Patrick has had extensive experience as a winery owner, viticulturist, winemaker and consulting enologist in France, California, Uruguay, Ribera del Duero and Chile. In addition to being CEO of Vik, he also owns Château de Rougérie in Entre Deux Mers.
