Viña Memorias is a family winery located in the Protected Designation of Origin Utiel-Requena, with a privileged terroir located 75 km inland from the Mediterranean city of Valencia. It was founded in 2016 in the spirit of preserving their family heritage and re-writing the modern history of the wines of their protected designation. The D.O.P Utiel-Requena is a region of red wines, where the star grape, the Bobal represents around 80% of the totalproduction, the second most widely cultivated vine in Spain, after the Tempranillo.

They elaborate single varietal wines, a process that begins with their farmers in each of the vines, paying attention to every detail and using  both traditional techniques the latest technology for maximum quality control. The winemaker creates every year wines with a distinct identity , reflecting the terroir and over 2.700 years wine tradition.

The vineyards are made up of old vines, more than 65 years old. The star variety from the winery and the designation is the Bobal grape. A unique and exclusive grape from this region that provides unique wines, fruity and particularly suitable for aging. In the vineyards you can also find other varieties of white grapes such as the Macabeo and the Merseguera.

About this wine:

It's fermented and aged in clay pots.

Beyond the romanticism involved in borrowing ancient techniques, terra-cotta pots offer unique interactive properties with wine—they pull out acidity, allow oxygen exchange, and provide superior insulation.

My tasting notes:

In the glass a intense purple red color with garnet edges.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of raspberries, black cherries and forest fruits with hints of black tea, licorice, chocolate and herbs.
On the palate dry, medium(++)bodied with medium acidity and medium ripe tanins. Round silky mouthfeel and not too sweet (blackcurrant jam) with enough freshness. The finish has a medium(+) length.
