Venus la Universal - Venus 2013
Pairing Suggestions
Venus la Universal - Venus 2013 (91 TSW)
Blend of 45% Carignan, 35% Grenache and 20% Syrah.
A few weeks ago I also tried a wine from this winery - the young brother “dido”
When I saw this wine at an auction I no longer had to doubt about buying this one.
My tasting notes:
First I gave this still young wine 2 hours time to breath in the decanter.
In the glass this wine shows a dark ruby red color.
On the medium+ great nose aromas of forest fruit, dark cherries and jammy fruit with hints of leather, smoke, dried figs and coffee.
On the palate medium++ bodied wih lively acidity and medium+ ripe tannins. Flavours are a recall of the nose with a nice and long aftertaste.
A meaty wine, designed to accompany food, especially Mediterranean cuisine.
They work with 4 plots of Grenache and Carignan of old vineyards located between Pinyana and Crossos. Vines located on the ridge that has both the North and South faces of clayey calcareous soils deep and moist, allowing for long and slow maturation. The Syrah comes from the estate of Venus The Universal.
The grapes are harvested by farms, selected and processed separately but in the end we try let it ferment all together, as long as the vintage allows. The grapes are processed into whole grains and with a little grenache prune, fermented with wild yeasts, and a slight pigeage during fermentation and maceration which takes approximately 28 to 32 days in wooden vats and 500 l open casks. The Venus is aged in 4000l wooden vats, and parted in 300l for 20 months.
