Venica & Venica - Petris Malvasia 2917

Venica & Venica - Petris Malvasia 2017 (89 TSW)
The Malvasia grape variety is originally from Greece and produces very aromatic and individualistic wines. It’s also the most important grape variety in Madeira. But this is really something else. One of the best Malvasia wines I tasted.
My notes:
In the glass a straw yellow color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of honeydew, acacia, orangepeel and stonefruit with hints of apricot and little petrol.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with nice round mouthfeel. Soft in mouth with a very nice acidity. The finish has a light bitterness and persistence.
This biodynamic wine is the perefect wine during those summer days and pairs great with fish dishes, poultry or canapés.
The grapes were picked and de-stemmed in September. The must was then left on the skins for 20 hours at a temperature of 10°-12° C in tanks specially designed to protect it from oxygen by using recycled carbon dioxide from the first fermentation, thus reducing levels of antioxidants. Subsequently 60% fermented and aged on the lees for five months in 20-27 hl barrels and the remainder in stainless steel vats.
