Venica & Venica - Friulano DOC Collio 2017 (88 TSW)
All Venica & Venica vineyards in are managed and planned following Biodynamic Agriculture. This wine was bottles during the full moon. The property spans over 40 hectares located on different hills, each one of which, facing a different direction, has its own particular microclimate. This gives their wines an incredible complexity.
The soils of the Collio region, known as “Ponka”, are composed of marl and sandstone dating back to the Eocene period. These stratifications that are also partly rocky are easily broken down by the weather pattern, that creates coarse elements that initially result in a granular soil and later in a very fine one.
The grapes were picked and de-stemmed in August. The must was then left on the skins for 12-14 hours at a temperature of 10°-12°c in tanks specially designed to protect it from oxygen by using recycled carbon dioxide from the first fermentation, thus reducing levels of antioxidants. Subsequently it fermented and aged on the lees for six months in stainless steel vats.
In the glass a golden yellow color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of peach, apple and citrus pulp with stony hints and almonds.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with light waxy mouthfeel and pleasant acidity. Fresh and crispy flavours and nice balance showing a recall of the nose with a medium+ pleasant aftertaste.
