Azienda Agricola Valentini - Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2016 (94/100 TSW)
Valentini probably is the most important winery in Abruzzo and is known worldwide for the high quality of its wines: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo. The company cultivates 70 hectares of vineyards to produce only 50.000 bottles a year, obtained with a system based on craftsmanship and respect for nature.
Variety: 100% Trebbiano
Appellation: Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC
Vinification: Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts without temperature control or filtration in old oak barrels of 50-70 hl where it matures for 12 months.
Winery: Valentini
Price range: €150,-
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright golden yellow color with copper reflections.
On the medium (+) nose complex aromas of citrus, nectarine and bruised apple with hints of white flowers, herbs, olives, yeast and some spicy hints.
On the palate dry, medium body with medium silky acidity. Very elegant and precise with fresh apricot, lemon, white pepper, yellow apple and a whiff of honey. Nice long light creamy mouthfeel with a saline mineral finish.
To pair with: Fish-based starters, mushroom risotto, grilled fish and white meat.
This icon wine is certainly a symbol of Italian excellence in the world, the Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Valentini is produced with absolutely natural techniques, the vineyards are treated in a completely artisanal way and in the cellar Francesco di Valentini does not manipulate the wine, we are dealing with a natural wine, even if the company Valentini does not want to be classified among the organic wines without sulfites. The spontaneous fermentation takes place in old oak barrels of 50/70 hl where it finishes the aging of 12 months. Valentini's wines are unique and each vintage has different characteristics.
