Tua Rita - Rosso dei Notri 2019 (90+ TSW)
Weekend vibes! A good start of the weekend this rosso from the Maremma region. A blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The vineyards of Tua Rita are located in Notri, a hamlet just outside beautiful Suvereto in southern Tuscany. This is where Rita Tua and her husband once started this illustrious domain. They were one of the first to start planting Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet sauvignon. In 2000 this led to a 100 point score by Robert Parker for the Redigaffi. The valley in which the vineyards are situated enjoys the cooling sea breeze during the day and the wind from the land at night. It is quite a sandy terroir.
About the wine:
Rosso dei Notri originated from an advantageous harvest since it was warm during July and August but fresh in September. Tua Rita has always expressed the best during warm vintages in fact 2016 is the proof of how the heat and great thermal excursion between night and day can communicate the true style of Tua Rita.
Vinification Grapes from an “early” harvest in the vineyards of Redigaffi, Per Semper and Giusto di Notri. After the harvest, traditional vinification and rearing in used wooden barrels for 3 months. These barrels have previously been used for Redigaffi, Giusto di Notri and Per Semper syrah. Sangiovese does not mature in oak.
My tasting notes:
First it's good to decant this still young wine.
In the glass an intense ruby red color with purple reflections.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of cherries, dark plums and wild strawberries with hints of herbs, spices and cedar.
On the palate dry, medium(+) bodied with high acidity and medium(+) tannins. Still young but the wine shows the great quiality of their grapes. Medium(+) length ont he light spicy finish. Extra point for the excellent PQR.
