Torre De Palma - Vinho Branco 2017 (89 TSW)
The estate of Torre de Palma is located in the heart of the Alentejo wine region, in Monforte. Enjoying the site climate of the Serra de São Mamede and a natural method, resulting in a perfect combination to produce unique wines, in harmony with nature. Beside the vineyards there is also a luxury boutique hotel with 18 rooms, a spa and a restaurant. I hope to visit them one day!
The several plots of vines are planted in balanced soils, giving privilege to natural methods. Carefully blended from a number of Portuguese indigenous varieties such has Aragonez, Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional e Tinta Miúda (for the reds) or Antão Vaz, Arinto and Alvarinho (for the whites). This is a project crafted by the awarded winemaker Duarte de Deus, practically crafted by hand, in small quantities and with an artisan spirit.
The winery which was inaugurated in 2016, is an ex-libris and the symbol of the Torre de Palma wine culture. The aim was to do a traditional winery, producing wine in an artisanally way.
About the wine:
Grape varieties: Antão Vaz, Arinto, Alvarinho.
During the harvest, all grapes are harvested manually in boxes of 25 kg. Selected, followed by gentle pressure. Inoculated with selected yeasts and fermented in temperature-controlled French oak barrels. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine had matured for six months in bâttonage sur lie.
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color with golden reflections.
On the medium+ nose aromas of melon, pineapple and pear with hints of light barrique and honey.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with lively acidity and light waxy and round mouthfeel. Nice freshness and balance showing flavours of pineapple, citrus and toast. Light bitterness in the aftertaste. Well made wine from Alentejo.
This wine goes very well with fatty fish (salmon, tuna, swordfish), sushi, shellfish and chicken dishes.
