Back to the wine:
Tornatore - Etna Bianco 2018 (89 TSW)
100% Carricante from the Etna wine region.
The carricante is a prolific Italian white grape variety planted in Sicily on the slopes of Mount Etna. The advantage of Carricante is that it ripens very late in high-lying vineyards after a long growing season, without losing its acids. The name is derived from the Italian word "Caricare", which means as much as "tax", referring to his large yields.
The spicy acids of this variety are typical. That is why it is traditionally recommended that after fermentation, the wine ripens on the yeasts, and possibly a malolactic fermentation, in order to temper the acidity somewhat.
Carricante is the main white grape of the Etna DOC, and it can be blended with the Catarrato and the Minella Bianca.
This Etna Bianco comes from the skillful vinification of the Carricante white grape varieties, grown in high-calling volcanic soils and arranged in terraces at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level on the north slope of the volcano.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a medium citrus color with green reflections.
On the medium+ nose aromas of nectarine, grapefruit and citrus with hints of herbs, hay and mint.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with medium+ acidity and nice freshness. Flavours of citrus, green apple and bitterness in the light smoky finish.
Great with shellfish, vegetarian meals, starters and snacks.
