Tenute Silvio Nardi - Rosso di Montalcino 2016 (87 TSW)
Ready to drink this “mini brunello”
The Rosso di Montalcino of Tenute Silvio Nardi is born in vineyards located between the gentle valleys of Orcia, Asso and Ombrone, in the extraordinary panorama of Montalcino.
It is produced exclusively with Sangiovese grapes, harvested only by hand in the second half of September. After a brief perfermentative maceration, the must ferments at a controlled temperature of 30 ° C for 15 days. Subsequently the wine ages in wooden barrels for 12 months and for a further period in the bottle before being placed on the market.
The 2016 harvest was a winemakers dream in terms of quality. Quantity however was down from the previous season due to a rough growing season. The season saw cooler then average temperatures that led to a slight reduction in yields. This was followed by a very warm and dry summer - with only one rainfall in August to help the vines. Harvesting began in the beginning of October and the resulting wines have wonderful flavors with exceptional profiles.
My notes:
In the glass a bright dark ruby red color.
On the medium+ nose ripe cherries, plums with hints of spices, balsamico and herbs.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with medium+ acidity, medium ripe tannins and good balance. The palate is fruit forward with cherries, ripe plums and violets and a nice presistent finish.
Perfect to accompany dishes with meat sauce, it is ideal in combination with game and mature cheeses.
