Tenuta Torciano 'Poggioaicieli' Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2016 (87 TSW)
Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a grape variety which was first cultivated on the hills of San Gimignano in clay schist soils dating back to the Pliocene era.
The winery is situated in the heart of Tuscany, half an hour from Florence and 20 minutes from Siena, surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and a succession of unique greenery that features towering cypress trees, long stretches of beautiful vineyards, olive groves, forests of oaks and lovely villages.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright golden yellow color.
On the medium nose aromas of pear, apple and citrus with hints of roses and honey.
On the palate dry, medium-bodied and medium acidity with flavours of apple, pear, vanilla and almond in the medium finish.
The prime quality of this wine demand fish dishes, prized shellfish, steamed, baked or grilled fish, tasty seafood hors d'oevres, fish soup and shellfish risotto. Also excellent with crépes, soufflèes and white meat.
