Tenuta Sette Ponti – Crognolo 2015 (89 tsomw points)
This great value 2015 vintage really rocks. It needs some time to open up but it only gets better.
Blend of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a dark ruby red color with a very dark rim.
On the nose intense aromas of dark ripe cherries, blackberries with lovely hints of vanilla, cpices, herbs and coffee.
On the palate full-bodied with tasty flavours of chocolate, tobacco and ripe dark fruits. The finish is long and full of fruit. Give this wine some more time and this is a great bargain!!
The vineyards are located in the area of Arezzo and very calcareous and are characterized by many stones in the ground. The grapes come from south-facing vineyards about 250 meters above sea level. The vines have an age of 10 to 20 years. The wine was named after a wild bush (Cornus), which grows abundantly on the estate. Produced mainly from the traditional Tuscan variety Sangiovese, with the proportion steadily increasing and in the medium term is likely to be 100%. Fortified for 14 months in French oak barrels, another six months bottle aging before sale.
