Tenuta San Leonardo - Villa Gresti 2011 (89 TSW)
My tasting notes:
In the glass a dark ruby red color with light brownish rim.
On the medium+ nose aromas of plums, dark cherries and hints of earth, leather, vanilla and ceder.
On the palate dry, medium-bodied with rich mouthfeel and medium acidity showing flavours of blackberries, dark plums, earth and chocolate. Tannins are well integrated with a long lingering finish.
An ideal partner for red meat dishes, poultry, roasts, braised or stewed meats, game and mature cheeses.
Villa Gresti is born from a selection of the Estate’s best Merlot grapes. Blend of Merlot 90%, Carmenère 10%. The grapes are hand-selected, then destemmed and soft-crushed, with minimal use of sulphur dioxide. The juice ferments and macerates on the skins for a long period of time, during which the cap is punched down daily. The must is cold-clarified by allowing the lees to settle.
After fermentation in cement tanks, the wine begins to mature in small 225-litre barrels, where it will stay for 12 to 14 months and bottle aging for at least 12 months.
Since the end of 2018 San Leonardo received The Organic certification. A magnificent goal achieved after three years of hard work on conversion. Another important goal was reached during the closing weeks of last year as it drew to its end: certification by the BWA - Biodiversity World Association. San Leonardo was approved by this important association as “Biodiversity Friend”, with a really astonishing score!
