Tenuta Cocci Grifoni - Il Grifone - Offida Rosso 2013 (89 TSW points)
With vineyards located on the slopes of San Basso, Tenuta Cocci Grifoni is seen as one of the top producers of this legendary Marche region
At only eighteen, after the death of his father, Guido Cocci Grifoni was given responsibility for the family business. By basically adhering to his ideas, often completely against the usual practices, Guido became one of the leading figures in the development of viticulture in the Marches. The big driving force at Cocci Grifoni is improvement, not necessarily change. This guarantees the unique individuality of their wines. Meanwhile the winery has been taken over by daughters Marilena and Paola Cocci Grifoni. Following their father, they also focus on the tradition and character of the region and its grapes.
About this wine:
70% Montepulciano 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Fermentation goes on RVs tanks for 1 week with a maturation in oak barrels of almost 2 years. Half year in the bottle in the cellars of the winery itself.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a dark ruby red color.
On the medium nose dark cherries, blackberries, chocolate, earth and tobacco.
On the palate dry, full-bodied with medium+ tannins and medium acidity with flavours of wild berries, plums, meat, cedar and tobacco. Medium+ aftertaste.
