Stellenrust Wine Estate - Stellenbosch Manor Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc 2017 (86 TSW)
When you are a "wooddigger" you might like this one. Any fans of Chenin Blanc variety?
My notes:
In the glass a golden yellow color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of pineapple, pear and lemon with hints of barrique, toast and cinnamon.
On the palate medium+ bodied with medium acidity and light creamy mouthfeel. Flavours of lemon, pear, toasty vanilla and nectarine on an oaky background. Will be great with food like grilled chicken, spicy food or fat fish.
Very curious about their higher level wines selection.
Stellenrust Wine Estate is just ten kilometers south of Stellenbosch, in the heart of the South African wine industry. Since its foundation in 1928, it has developed into one of the largest family vineyards in South Africa.
It has 400 hectares of land, including 200 hectares of vines. In 2005 the brothers started Dr. Tertius Boshoff and Kobie van der Westhuizen not only a quality offensive, they also appointed the 70 working families as shareholders with a majority stake in 100 hectares of agricultural land, which they cultivate, harvest and expand as their own plot.
This makes it one of the most successful 'black empowerment projects' on the continent.
The winery works mainly with French grape varieties such as cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, chenin blanc, cinsault, merlot, sauvignon blanc and shiraz. But South Africa's most characteristic grape pinotage must also be mentioned.
