The sun is back in the Netherlands.??
Talking about a wine with the perfect PQR – This wine fits perfect in that category!
Not really a complicated wine but one that everyone likes. Can be used as a companion of firmer fish dishes, meal salads and asparagus. Also delicious with dishes from Asian cuisine or of course as aperitif. Perfect for corona parties or virtual tastings with your winefriends.
Chenin Blanc has been found in South African wine growing for many years. Also at Simonsig, the pioneer within the Classic Cape method, the chenin published a permanent place in the portfolio: it was the first independent wine that Frans Malan launched on the market after the creation of the Simonsig winery in 1968. The established price appreciation of this chenin is emphasized by the gold medal the wine received during the Mundus Vini competition. He was also voted best white wine in South Africa!
Simonsig Wine Estate is located in Koelenhof. This is located ten kilometers north of Stellenbosch and about forty kilometers northeast of Cape Town. The winery is historical. As early as 1688, Jacques Malan took the first steps towards viticulture on the Cape. The recent history of the winery is no longer so new either, as Frans Malan founded the current winery as early as the 1950s, making him one of the great pioneers of South African viticulture.
My tasting notes:
For about € 7/8 euro whole lot of wine.
In the glass a very bright straw yellow color.
On the medium nose aromas of green melon, pear and lemon with hints of white flowers and cookie dough.
On the palate dry, medium-bodied with medium+ acidity and nice freshness. Flavours are a interplay between tropical fruit and pear with spices. The finish had a medium+ finish.
Perfect for the upcoming sunny days.
