Schiopetto - Collio Pinot Bianco 2017 (87 TSW)
Nice find on @8wines this white wine from the Friuli region. Check my stories for more details.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color.
On the medium nose aromas of apricot, peach and pear with hints of white blossom, white pepper and light vanilla.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with medium+ acidity and nice freshness. Flavours of peach, pear and lemon with a medium light almond finish. Shame of the aftertaste otherwise it scored better
To pair with fish and roasted chicken, although it also has the vivacity to stand up to oysters, scallops, and lobster dishes.
Schiopetto is widely regarded as one Friuli’s original pioneers thanks to the hard work of Mario Schiopetto whose work on the region’s white varietals in the 1960s and 1970s played a part in ushering in a revival for Italian winemaking. Today this legacy is carried on by new owner, Emilio Rotolo, who has sought to honour Mario’s work while making his own mark on the region.
The winery has about 30 hectares of vines and a production of 200.000 bottles a year.
