Santa Sofia - Amarone Della Valpolicella classico 2012
Pairing Suggestions
Santa Sofia - Amarone Della Valpolicella classico 2012 (90 TSW pnts.) One of the best Amarone I tasted. Normally they are a bit too sweet for my palate but this one really rocks! ???????? Founded in 1811, the Santa Sofia winery has headquarter and cellars in Pedemonte, north of Verona (Italy), in the noble villa designed by Andrea Palladio in the sixteenth century in one of the most beautiful areas and temperate regions of the classic Valpolicella : Villa Santa Sofia, formerly known as Villa Sarego.
Already in the mid-800, the company was known for the excellent quality of its wines. In 1967 the winemaker Giancarlo Begnoni took it over, and in the following years his son and daughter, Luciano and Patrizia, joined him. They pursue with passion and spirit of innovation the adventure in the wine world began in ‘900 by their grandfather Luciano.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a dark ruby red color.
On the nose intense aromas of plums, raspberries, dark berries with hints of vanilla and chocolate.
On the palate dry, full-bodied, medium tannins and medium+ acidity. Full of power, balanced and with nice freshness. Long and firm aftertaste. Perfect wine for these Christmas days.
