A whole lot of wine for a great price. Available at @giuseppe_lapiuma
Perfect with the rainy weather in the Netherlands
Rosso Conero is a small appellation from the Marche and also one of the best. The area is located behind the Monte Conero, south of Ancona. The Conero promontory is an exceptional environment for the cultivation of red grapes.
It has a unique microclimate: the sea breeze, in combination with a calcareous soil, poor but with a lot of structure, which give the Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes an absolutely original bouquet.
The grapes for the La Gattara come from vines that are at least 25 years old. They are harvested by hand in mid-October. After gentle pressing and fermentation, the wine is aged for 24 months in French barriques. After barrel aging, the wine rests in the bottle for 8 months in the cellars of the domain. Only about 1.500 bottles of this wine are produced annually.
Blend of 70% Montepulciano, 30% Sangiovese
My tasting notes:
In the glass a deep dark ruby red color.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of dark ripe cherries, prunes and blackberries with hints of spices, liquorice, cedar, coffee and light tobacco.
On the palate dry, full-bodied with medium(+) acidity and medium ripe tannins. Round and warm mouthfeel with a medium(+) length finish.
The Rosso Conero La Gattara pairs perfectly with wild boar ragu and stew (brassato) in wine sauce.
