Rivetto - Langhe Nascetta Borea 2015
Pairing Suggestions
Rivetto Langhe Nascetta Borea 2015 (89 tsomw points)
The Nascetta grape is very old and intimate. Almost extinct until it started experimenting back in 1990. Nascetta is a white grape with low yield and small bunches. This is probably why the grape was not always cherished in the past. It was not until 2000 that Nascetta was recognized as 'vino da tavola' again. And since 2010, this wine has been given a DOC label. Some see in this wine a white counterpart of the red Barolo. The grapes get better as the tendrils grow older.
My tasting notes:
This lovely wine from the Langhe region is made from 100% Nascetta.
In the glass a golden yellow color.
On the nose delicate aromas of pineapple, peach, with hints of flowers, grain and honey.
On the palate rounded and well balanced. It has a nice acidity with light creamy citrus notes and flavours of stonefruit and nice minerality. The finish is long with light almond bitterness.
A little history
The Rivetto family has been producing noble wines in the Langhe region for four generations. It all began with the entrepreneurial activity of great-grandfather Giovanni who, at the end of the 19th century, began to sell wine in a small food shop near Asti. In 1921, his work was given new impetus, through the far-sighted vision of his son, Ercole, just over 20 years old at the time: along with his brother Nando, they moved to Alba and rented a wine shop in the historical center, launching a business working with the prized grapes of the Barolo and Barbaresco area and successfully experimenting with wine production. In 1939, grandfather Ercole gave the family business a new twist, purchasing the Tenuta Loirano, which belonged to the Vassallo counts and, before that, to the Falletti family. Soon more.
