Proyecto Garnachas de España - La Garnatxa Fosca del Priorat 2012 (87 tsomw points)
The grapes are harvested from vineyards over 60 years old on slopes and slate terraces in the mountains of El Molar, Tarragona, between 300 and 400 metres above sea level. The harvest, which takes place between late September and early October, is done manually.
Once harvested, a process of fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature below 28º. The maceration lasts two weeks and the final aging in French oak barrels lasts 10 months. The Spanish Grenache Project wants the Grenache grape, relegated to the background for many years, to recover the position it deserves.
My notes:
In the glass a dark cherry red color with purple rim.
On the nose intense aromas of dark red cherries, blackberries and vanilla with hints of herbs and spices.
On the palate medium-bodied with velvet soft mouthfeel. The tannins are soft with nice acidity. Flavours of red cherries with lively spicyness in the well integrated oak. Nice and well balanced wine with an excellent pqr.
