Prieto Pariente - Viognier 2017

Prieto Pariente - Viognier 2017 (89 TSW)
You probably know the wines from Jose Pariente from the Rueda region. The Viognier from Prieto Pariente comes from a project initiated and led by Martina and Ignacio Prieto Pariente and supported by knowledge and experience of the second generation of the Prieto wine family. The core of this new challenge is based on the selection of very old vineyards from the province of Valladolid (Castilla y León). Difference, territory and selection determine the wines of Prieto Pariente.
The province of Valladolid supplies a wide variety of wines. The old vineyards with their special character and low yields are a reflection of the traditional viticulture in the region. Prieto Pariente believes in making composite wines from grapes from various regions in Valladolid. This belief has resulted in a search over the plateau, which is crossed by the river Duero. Martina and Ignacio have restored a number of old vineyards that were originally intended to uproot.
This Viognier comes from a small hidden vineyard found in the Paramos of Valladolid. From the grapes from these vines an aromatic wine is made with volume and body.
They also make red wines which I soon will give a try. Wines with varieties like Tempranillo, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright golden yellow color.
On the medium+ nose delicate aromas of lychee, peach and citrus with well integrated hints of flowers, vanilla and spices.
On the palate dry, medium++ bodied with great balance and intensity. Flavours of apricots, yellow apple, limestone and peach with a lively acidity. The finish is long, soft and persistent.
Pairs great with pork, deer, shellfish, spicy food, poultry and mild and soft cheeses.
