Poggio Al Sole - Primavera Rosé 2018 (87 TSW)
In the Netherlands we enjoyed a beautiful and sunny weekend so we tried this Rosato from Poggio al Sole.
100% Sangiovese and manual harvested beginning of September whole grape pressed, controlled – temperature fermentation and no malolactic fermentation. On lees until mid of February. Bottling on March.
My notes:
In the glass a pinkish copper color.
On the medium nose aromas of red berries, raspberries and red cherries with nice minerality.
On the palate dry, medium-bodied with medium acidity and nice freshness. Balanced flavours recalling the nose with a medium finish.
This rosato does well on the side of grilled fish, chicken, salmon but also perfect as aperitif.
The Poggio al Sole winery has been managed by the Swiss Davaz family for over 20 years. The family has a long tradition of wine-growing. On their vineyard in the Bündner Herrschaft between Fläsch and Maienfeld, the family has been pressing wine since the early 1970s. The sons Johannes and Andrea became winegrowers. Then the family took over "Poggio al Sole". The older of the two sons, Johannes, now lives with his family in Tuscany.
The approximately 24 hectares of vine slopes face south-east to south-west and are approximately 320-480 metres above sea level. Only 400-600 grams of grapes are harvested from each square meter.
