Podere Brizio – Rosso di Montalcino 2015 (88 tsomw points)
Podere Brizio is part of a promising network of wineries, all belonging to the Alejandro Bulgheroni Family Vineyards (ABFV) Italy group, located in the most promising wine regions of Tuscany, some of the world’s best-loved terroirs: Chianti Classico, Montalcino and Bolgheri.
These wineries have in common not only the production philosophy, focusing on the finest quality, sustainability and low environmental impact, thanks to which we obtain very elegant wines and exquisite extra-virgin olive oil, but also the most refined hospitality, vaunting the authentic and discreet taste of Tuscany’s much lauded lifestyle.
This Rosso di Montalcino has been made from the vineyards located in the southwest of Montalcino at an altitude of 300-350 meters above sea level facing the sea and the Maremma. This is Montalcino’s hottest area. Here the soil consists of sandstone and rocky marl, which allows the production of wellstructured, mineral wines.
About the wine:
Traditionally vinified with spontaneous fermentation driven by native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, the wine is aged for 12 months in untoasted 54hl French oak barrels. Bottle refinement for 3 months minimum.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright garnet red color.
In the glass delicate aromas of red berries, cherries and raspberries with a nice dress of vanilla, tobacco and some mediterian herbs.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with nice acidity and tannins. Well balanced with flavours of red berries, cherries and tobacco with a light pepper in the long finish. Not a complex wine but very nice with great mouthfeel. Paired great with the pasta with red pesto and beef.
Good with pasta dishes, salami, prosciutto and meat.
