Podere ai Valloni - Boca Vigna Cristiana 2010 (90 TSW)
BOCA DOC is one of the most unique and exciting parts of North Piedmont, also known as Alto Piedmont. This part of the region is much cooler than the southern part.
The secret of BOCA is the substrate, consisting of pure solid porphyry, a kind of iron-rich granite that produces Nebbiolo wines with a mineral rocky character that can age unprecedented.
Podere ai Valloni has been run by the Sertorio family since time immemorial. Sustainable wines with a high quality level. Valloni was in 1970 the 1st domain which with their “Vigna Christina” received a DOC status from all of Piedmont.
Only 6000 bottles are produced.
Blend of Nebbiolo 70%, Vespolina 20%, Uva Rara 10%
The grapes are meticulously selected and harvested by hand, gently layed in wooden crates and crushed the same day. the wine matures in oak casks for at least three years before being bottled and left to further mature.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a garnet red color with bricked edges.
On the nose delicate aromas of dark cherries, dark berries and balsamico with hints of violets, leather, chocolate, bell pepper and vanilla.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with medium acidity and medium integrated tannins. Flavours are a recall of the nose with nice concentration and persistence. Leather and chocolate in the finish.
