The Pietroso farm was born in Montalcino in the 1970s thanks to the passion for the land, and for wine in particular, by Domenico Berni (known in Montalcino as "Delfo"). Today it is conducted by Domenico's grandson, Gianni Pignattai. Gianni's goal is to produce limited quantities of fine wines: Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino. On 8.5 total hectares, those planted with vines are 3.5, destined for the production of Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino, and one hectare is cultivated with olive groves.
The vineyard is cultivated exclusively with sangiovese and is found in three distinct areas in the municipality of Montalcino, at a height varying from 350 to 450 meters, and this makes it possible to have a balanced product even in years with particular climatic characteristics. The harvest takes place strictly by hand, after a drastic thinning of the grapes during the summer. The winery is located about 500 meters from the historic center of Montalcino and enjoys a splendid view overlooking the ancient town, the Val D’Arbia and the surrounding woods. Here all the vinification operations take place (in 60 hl stainless steel vats), refinement (in 30 hl Slavonian oak barrels) and bottling.
