Pietershof Wijndomein - Pinot Blanc / Auxerrois 2017 (85 TSW)
Sipping wine with a view - in our garden.
Dutch winemaker Piet Akkermans and his wife started the winery in 2000 in Belgium. Albert Meijer (a cardiologist from the Netherlands) met Piet. The had the same passion and decided to start working together in the Winery.
After February 2021, Albert and his wife Rianne take over the company; a nice idea for Piet and Marlies that their life's work, producing beautiful wines, will be continued.
The Pietershof mainly vinifies white wines from the classic grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Auxerrois. The vineyard with an area of 2 ha is located on the Krindaal, a winding main road from De Plank to Sint Martens and Sint Pietersvoer. With a sun-drenched south slope, bordered on the north side by a dense forest edge, we speak of an ideal location of this vineyard.
The chalky soil, formed 70 million years ago by the then sea that covered Europe, gives the wines the much-loved minerality. In beautiful summers, the numerous thick flint stones are warmed by the sun and, after sunset, give their heat to the grapes. Although the climate is very changeable and unpredictable, the microclimate in the vineyard, averaged over the entire season, provides enough heat to ripen the grapes.
My tasting notes:
12 hours of soaking.
6 months 'sur lie'. In the glass a bright citrus yellow color with green reflections.
On the medium nose aromas of yellow apple, pear and citrus with hints of blossom and yeast.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with medium+ acidity and nice freshness. Flavours of pear, green apple and citrus. Also some hints of grapefruit with white pepper and honey. The finish is a bit short. Nice made Belgium blend.
