Pieropan - Soave Classico 2017 (89 tsomw points)
Flashbacks to my Veneto vacation were we opened this great Soave at the beach.
Pieropan is the oldest family-owned estate in Soave, and the family’s winegrowing and winemaking has raised the stature of the classic Soave region to world class. Now, the quietly prestigious Pieropans are placed alongside the likes of Tuscany’s Antinoris and Valpolicella’s Allegrinis in impact on their regions and on Italian winemaking.
Leonildo Pieropan was a respected doctor in 1880 when he began making wine in the family home. Generations later, the winery is run by Nino and Teresita Pieropan and their sons, Dario and Andrea, fourth generation winemakers and winegrowers who were raised among the vineyards and cellars of Soave. Dario and Andrea were educated in viticulture and enology in Italy’s best universities, and worked in other prestigious Italian and international wine regions to expand their skills and expertise.
Tasting notes:
In the glass a bright yellow color.
A fresh and expressive Soave, with white flower, almond and a touch of citrus.
Rounded, ripe fruit is perfectly balanced by a fresh, clean acidity. Long and fragrant, it has a note of fine, almond on the finish. Great Soave
