Philippe Gonet - Brut Rosé
Pairing Suggestions
Philippe Gonet - Brut Rosé (90 TSW)
Really a nice rosé champagne with a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This may seem like a simple method to make rosé champagne, but that isn’t true. After all, the dose of red wine and (especially) the time at which it is added are very important. It will be the determine the taste, color and aromas of the rosé champagne. Because of the delicate nature of this method of preparation, rosé champagne is a fairly more expensive wine.
Champagne Philippe Gonet works mainly with grapes from his own vineyards and is based in le Mesnil-sur-Oger. This area has been classified as a Grand Cru since 1985; the best classification that champagne can get. The Gonet vineyards are adjacent to the Salon vineyards and are a stone's throw from Krug's Clos de Mesnil.
The house’s Rosé is composed of 90% Chardonnay, paired with 10% Pinot Noir from the village of Vertus on the Côte des Blancs. The cellar master chose to make this cuvée a blended Rosé, bringing together all the freshness and finesse of a Chardonnay with the structure and fruit of a Pinot Noir.
Six months in temperature controlled tanks of stainless steel. Then cellar aging in special bottles for at least 3 years. 7g/l sugar
My tasting notes:
In the glass a dark salmon turning into orange, copper color, with a fine and persistent pérlage.
On the medium nose aromas of red apple, cranberries and pomegranate with hints of brioche, spicess and blossom.
On the palate dry, with medium acidity and nice freshness. Flavours of strawberries, apple and cherries with light toast and honey. The finish is presistent with a spicy and mineral finish.
Perfect for the start of the evening as an aperitif and end the bottle at the dining table.
