Pfitscher – Gewürztraminer Rutter 2017 (87 TSW)
Are you a Gewürztraminer lover? The name of the variety "Gewürztraminer" most likely originates from the Alto Adige winegrowing village of Tramin. “Traminer” was a term known throughout the entire German-speaking world as early as the thirteenth century. Today it is one of Alto Adige’s most popular wines.
Gewürztraminer wine has many similarities to Moscato it also has higher alcohol, more striking aromatics and lower acidity. All of these characteristics make Gewürztraminer more difficult to sip down, thus making it more ‘adult’. Gewürztraminer is one of the 4 Grand Cru grapes of Alsace and has been produced in the region for hundreds of years. The variety is found in French Alsace as a cépage wine. In Germany it is also successfully grown in almost every wine region. The grape is also called Klevner in the Baden wine region.
Gewürztraminer best pairings happen when you step outside of traditional French cuisine and experience other foods of the world. Middle Eastern and Moroccan cuisine, both utilizing nuts and dried fruits with roasted meats, are great examples of the types of cuisine to enjoy with Gewürztraminer wine.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a deep golden yellow color.
On the medium+ nose typical aromas of rose pedals, lychee and mango with hints of green tea and spices.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with round mounthfeel, nice freshness and aromatic. Flavours are a recall of the nose with a nice spicyness in the persistent aftertaste.
