Pere Ventura – Cava Brut Vintage 2014 (90 TSW)
On Christmas Eve we drank this elegant Cava accompanied with delicious food.
The Limited production Cava 'Vintage' Gran Reserva Brut 2014 is a cuvée of 60% Xarel-Lo and 40% Chardonnay sourced from El Serral and L’Oreneta (Catalunya) plots at a height of 220 meters. The grapes are individually picked in several steps by hand to reach the optimal ripening point. After harvesting, the grapes are placed in a cooled, pneumatic press that works as gently as possible.
The first fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. Part of the Chardonnay ripenes in oak barrels, where the fine yeast is constantly stirred. After the ripening phase, the two grape varieties are assembled into an assembly, the finished cuvée lightly filtered, stabilized and bottled. Traditional bottle fermentation with yeast maturation followes for at least 43 months.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright straw yellow color with golden rim. Fine and persistent perlage.
On the medium nose aromas of lemon, yellow apple and flowers with hints of toast, herbs and a splash of honey.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied, light creamy but with nice freshness, balance and richness. Flavours of lemon tart, peach, brioche and butter. Nice long light almond aftertaste.
This refined Cava is best appreciated with oysters, lobster and crayfish. White fish, either grilled or in a light sauce, are a star combination. It will make a splendid accompaniment to white meats or poultry with subtle exotic flavors.
