Pedro Escudero - The Maker 2018 (89 TSW)
Winemaker Diego Escudero from the Rueda region is working on some very innovative projects with the Verdejo grape variety, with which he explores the limits of what is possible with Verdejo. The first of which is the single vineyard wine Verdejo The Maker Nativo. The aim of this wine is to translate the 50-year-old vines in the Pago de Fuente Elvira terroir as pure as possible into wine. This wine is therefore made with a spontaneous fermentation and matures at a low temperature in the cellars. The wine matures on the yeast cells for 3 months, which gives it its full and powerful aroma and taste.
The label shows an angel whoi is a symbol for the family and specifically father Pedro Escudero. Winemaker Diego Escudero has the freedom to make this special wine, because thanks to his family he can make wine from this beautiful vineyard.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of peach, apricot and honeydew melon with hints of flowers and citrus.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with nice roundness, light waxy, medium+acidity and intense fruit aromas. Flavours are a recall of the nose with nice spicyness and orange peel. Nicely balanced and elegant Verdejo.
Two points extra for this lovely summer wine with a nice price € 15,-
