Panizzi - Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2020 (88+ TSW)
A beautiful sunny day in the Netherlands on international women's day.
An important date to recognize all these beautiful women in the world.????
Cheers!
Back to the wine:
This entry level biologic wine from Panizzi is a great value white.
While many local Vernaccia do not rise above the level of simple house wine, there is a well-respected group of producers who make great examples. Such as Panizzi, who is one of the local toppers under the direction of Simone Niccolai.
The vineyards are located directly around the cellars and the grapes are quickly cooled and fermented after the manual picking. Winemaker Walter Sovran adds a small portion, about 6%, of Manzoni and Trebbiano grapes and then allows the wine to mature in a tank for quite some time. This is not a wine to drink very young, just after fermentation.
Only after a few months of maturation does the wine open and show its qualities. This beautiful dry white wine has a delicate aroma and a fresh dry taste. Works well as an original and exclusive aperitif or, for example, with dishes with mushrooms (game birds, veal) or poached fish.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color with golden reflections.
On the medium nose aromas of peach, lemon, yellow apple and pear with hints of blossom, almonds and nuts.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with medium acidity and freshness. Nice summer wine. Easy going but delicate to sip in the sun and with a medium length finish.
