Oenops - Aplá Dry white wine 2019 (87 TSW)
I am really excited to taste some Greek wines these coming weeks.
This Aplá white is a blend of three famous Greek grape varieties (Malagousia, Assyrtiko and Roditis).
The vineyards are located in the north of Greece (Drama region of Macedonia) with 12-45 year old vines. Wholly sustainable. The climate is warm with heated summers with mild, wetter winters. Sorting of the grapes and either direct pressing or limited cold maceration. Fermentation in inox tanks and amphoras. Four months aging on the fine lees before bottling.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright citrus yellow color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of lychee, mango, lime and green apple with hints of white flowers, nectarine and white pepper.
On the palate dry, medium bodied. Rich and balanced with nice freshness. Crisp flavors of tropical fruits, lemon, white peach and ripe pear. Light almond aftertaste. Very nice.
We paired it with a salad but also tasty with pasta with light sauces, seafood, fish, sushi and Asian food.
Founded in 2015 by celebrated Greek wine maker Nikos Karatzas, Oenops is the most newly established winery in the region of Drama. Its main goal is to produce the highest quality wines in limited quantities. The grapes are sourced from personally selected vineyards from Drama and surrouding areas of Macedonia, cultivated by ambitious winegrowers.
