Nals Margreid – Sirmian Pinot Bianco 2017 (89 TSW)
3 glasses in the Gambero Rosso this lovely Pinot Bianco from Alto Adige.
From the South-Eastern vineyards at the place Nalles. Sirmian is one of the oldest vineyards in this area, quite high up at an altitude of around 600-700 meters. The bottom is stony with marble and slate. Very slow maturing due to the cool nights.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright golden yellow color.
On the medium+ nose delicate aromas of pear, apple and peach with hints of white flowers and white pepper.
On the palate dry, medium+-bodied with beautiful freshness, power and mouthfeel showing flavours of stonefruit, apricot, nuts and a light waxy minerality. Very enjoyable white wine.
Recommended with gently cooked white fish from the oven, spicy, crispy salads.
About the winery:
Nals Margreid is a fairly young company that was started in 1985 by the merger of the cellars of Nalles and Magre-Niciara. In total they have 150 hectares of vineyards spread over 13 wine-growing areas, all with their own soil, climate and hours of sunshine. The difference in height also affects which grape varieties have been planted. The lower vineyards are planted with Pinot Grigio while the higher plots have been chosen for Pinot Bianco, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.
At Nals Magreid, no fewer than 140 winemakers contribute to good and healthy grapes. The philosophy of Nals Margreid was mandatory for all winemakers to work with the utmost respect for nature and the environment. Diseases and parasites can only be controlled with ecological means.
