Montresor - Soave Classico 2017 (86 tsomw points)
Today a good value wine from the Veneto Region – DOC Soave Classico
The Soave wine growing area in Northern Italy to the North of the city of Verona is the largest in Italy but the ownership of the vineyards is very fragmented. The quality varies greatly between the wines of different producers. The best Soaves come from the slopes of the classico area of the municipalities of Soave and Monteforte.
About the wine:
The vines are trained in the traditional trellis system, and grapes are picked by hand in September. The grapes are gently pressed in Bucher presses and fermentation in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 16 degrees with a short maceration. Malolactic fermentation is actively prevented. The wine is held on lees for a few months and given a light filtration before bottling.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a bright yellow color with green highlights.
On the nose nice aromas of pear, apple and citrus with hints of vanilla and acacia.
On the palate dry, medium bodied, with nice acidity and freshness showing flavours of peach, grapefruit, hazelnuts and almond. Medium+ aftertaste with citrus and nuts flavours.
