Monteverro - Toscana 2008 (93/94 TSW)
For me one of the best wines from Tuscany / Maremma region. Selected by @decanter as one of the top 10 wineries to visit in Tuscany.
A true Premier Grand Cru of Maremma, made from the classic Bordeaux grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot and yet with the unmistakable character of the Tuscan coast. An ambitious wine in every respect - the grapes are exclusively from prime locations on the slopes which flow gently to the sea with every lot vinified separately. Fermentation in inox and barrel Natural fermentations 100 % gravity. The wine is aged for about 24 months in barriques from the best coopers (70-80 % new wood) and then for two years in the bottle.
My tasting notes:
In the glas a deep dark red color. Almost black.
On the medium+ nose aromas of raspberries, blackberries and plums with hints of leather, figs, tobacco, rosemary, graphite and balsamico.
On the palate dry, full-bodied with beautiful layers. Warm and round mouthfeel with medium acidity and medium fine grained tannins. Nicely balanced with a recall of the nose with hints of dark fruit, spices and herbs in the long and velvet finish.
