Monteverro - Terra di Monteverro Toscana 2013
Pairing Suggestions
Monteverro - Terra di Monteverro Toscana 2013 (91 TSW)
Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
This Maremma blend is one with a great PQR. Littte brother of the top Monteverro wine and produced from the same vine varieties. It goes without saying that strict selection in the vineyards, harvesting by hand and the utmost care in the cellar are par for the course here. The difference: some of the grapes come from different parcels, even the composition of the cuvée may vary.
Each Jot fermented separately, fermentation in stainless steel and barrel, natural fermentations, 100 % gravity, punch downs by hand. Aging for 20 months in French oak barrels with 60% new oak.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a ruby red color.
On the medium+ nose aromas of dark berries, ripe black cherries and blackberries with hints of chocolate, vanilla, cedar and light tobacco.
On the palate dry, medium+ bodied with beautiful elegance and balance. Smooth medium tannins and acidity with flavours of dark ripe fruit, liquorice and minty tones. A great long finish that makes you long for the next one.
With Tenuta Monteverro, situated below the medieval town of Capalbio in the province of Grosseto, the successful German entrepreneur Georg Weber has courageously gained access to the society of the Tuscan wine aristocracy on the last hill before the Tyrrhenian Sea. Previously, the pedantic landowner had spent several years searching for his vineyard paradise between Napa Valley, Bordeaux and Australia with no result. In front of the entrance door of the winery in the Maremma stands a cast-iron wild boar, which also gave it its name: Monteverro means Eberberg.
