Monteverro - Chardonnay 2014
Pairing Suggestions
Monteverro - Chardonnay 2014 (90 TSW)
Monteverro is one of my favorite wineries of the Maremma (Tuscany) region. Also the new vintage of their wines earned a very good score by @monicalarner / Robert Parker.
I hope to visit their winery in the near future when Covid is over.
Back to the wine. A 100% Chardonnay from the difficult 2014 vintage.
Terroir:
Clay and limestone
Winemaking:
Each lot fermented separately Whole cluster pressing
Natural fermentations
Aging on fine lees 100% gravity
Aging:
50% spent 14 months in French oak barrels with 40% new oak, the remaining 50% aged in concrete eggs
Bottling:
No fining, light filtration
My tasting notes:
In the glass a very bright golden straw yellow color.
On the medium(+) nose aromas of stonefruit, mango and lemon with hints of vanilla, brioche, cedarwood, ripe yellow apple and a touch of honey.
On the palate dry, medium(+) bodied with medium acidity and round creamy but fresh mouthfeel. Flavours of peach, hazelnuts, cream, orangepeel, marzipan, pear and something chalky. Medium length finish.
To pair with pasta with creamy sauce, vegetarian meals, lean fish and salted meat.
