Massoni - Chardonnay 2014
Pairing Suggestions
Matured for 14 months in French barriques. ( not too oaky). Medium straw color with green highlights. On the nose white peach, lemon curd and grapefruit mixed with cashew and nougat with spicy end notes. The palate is complex and long. Mineral, smoky flavours, light butter with again peach, cashew, light oak and spice. A long fruity, dry aftertaste. Great.
Region: Mornington Peninsula 100%
Composition: Chardonnay 100%
Harvest date: 10 March
Vintage conditions: The 2011-12 growing season was mild and relatively dry apart from some useful lateseason rain. After two wet years, the vines were healthy and fruit-set was good although berries were smaller than normal. Late January and February were cooler than expected so harvest was slightly later than we had anticipated.
Winemaking: Hand-picked and brought to the winery for immediate processing. Whole-bunch pressed with the juice settled for a short period before fermentation with wild yeast in small oak barrels, 30% of which were new. After fermentation, 15% of the barrels went through malo-lactic fermentation. The wine was blended in March 2013 and allowed to integrate in tank before bottling in June.
