Montefioralle - Chianti Classico 2016
Montefioralle - Chianti Classico 2016 (89 TSW)
Blend of 90% Sangiovese, 6% Canaiolo and a splash of Colorino.
Now a beautiful story from one of the smallest-sized wineries among the consortium of Chianti Classico producers with only 2 hectares (5 acres) of vineyard. But does that mean that the wine is not at a high level? Not at all! Azienda Agricola Montefioralle is a small family-run Chianti Classico winery. Their main production is wine in limited quantities, though. Every year approximately 10,000 bottles leave the cellar. The small quantity production enables the Sieni family to take care of every little detail in order to produce high quality Chianti Classico wine. The vineyards, the winery, the cellar, and the shop are all located in the small medieval hamlet of Montefioralle, close to the town of Greve in Chianti.
The winery was established in 1964 by Renato Sieni, who, upon retirement, took over the management of the vineyards that had been run by the priest of Montefioralle for centuries. With the help of his son Fernando, Renato planted new grapevines. In the 90s they bought the vineyard from the church.
Now Fernando’s oldest daughter, Alessia, is the official owner of the estate and the winery. Together with her brother Lorenzo and, of course, Fernando, they manage the production and commercialization of Chianti Classico wine and olive oil.
Let’s get back tot he wine that’s on the table:
Alcoholic fermentation and maceration for 14 days in cement tanks. Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Aging for 12 months in used oak barrels.
As you know 2016 is a great year for Sangiovese and you taste the elegance in the glass. ????
In the glass a ruby red color with garnet rim.
On the medium+ nose of cherries, red berries and violets with hints of spices and earth.
On the palate dry, medium acidity and tannins. Already very drinkable, round, elegant and harmonious. Will even get better within 2/3 years.
