Miette 'By Spinifex' Shiraz 2012 (89 TSW)
First wine I tasted from the winebox of @thesommelierselection
Three diverse bottles composed by the sommeliers of @brut_wines
Every month a new selection from another restaurant.
Check them out!.
Second label from Barossan cult producer, Spinifex. Known for their attention to detail, hands on winemaking and precision for blending their wines are all about finesse and complexity. Made from the same parcels of fruit that go into the Spinifex wines, Miette is made in a more forward, open style meaning they are approachable right now! As winemaker Pete Schell says .. “the wines are all about freshness, purity and balance. Wines made for food, family and friends.”
Sourced from six vineyards nestled in the Barossa and Eden Valleys, the heartland of South Australia’s wine country. Hand harvested late in the season, the fruit was fermented in a selection of open top stainless steel and oak fermenters as a blend of both whole bunches (around 20%) and fully destemmed berries. Fermentations, undertaken by indigenous yeasts, took between 7 and 12 days and were macerated for between 10 and 14 days prior to pressing. Maturation was undertaken in a selection of seasoned French oak barriques, demi-muids and 2500 l vats on light lees for 20 months prior to blending and bottling.
My tasting notes:
In the glass a deep ruby red color with garnet reflections.
On the medium(+) aromas of cherries, raspberries and coffee with hints of black pepper, eucalyptus, dark chocolate, vanilla and black olives.
On the palate dry, medium(+) bodied with medium acidity and ripe tannins. Nice round and fresh in the mouth with red cherries, chocolate, herbs, spices and well integrated oak. Nice long and soft finish.
