Michele Satta - Bolgheri Rosso 2016 (88 tsomw points)
Blend of Sangiovese 30%, Cabernet Sauvignon 30%, Merlot 20%, Syrah 10%, Teroldego 10%
The company was founded in 1983, the year before the foundation of the Bolgheri DOC, of which, in fact, Michela was among its first protagonists. In 1987, after an initial unstable period (due to leasing and rental issues) he finally formed the initial core of the company and purchased the best available land and built his cellar.
Vineyard layouts and plant education are Satta's specializations. Although the image and the DOC of the Bolgheri prescribe the international blend of Cabernet, Merlot, Cavaliere and Syrah, he chooses to choose grapes that he thought could express even better the Bolgheri Mediterranean terroir; Sangiovese and Syrah.
He was also the first to bring Syrah, Teroldego and Viognier to this land and to vinify wines 100% Vermentino and 100% Sangiovese.
His wine competes with great wines from the Chianti and Montalcino. He rules his estate with warm passion. That same passion ensures that his six children continue to work for the company.
About the wine:
This is the entry level red wine from this winery.
In the glass a deep ruby red color.
On the nose delicate aromas of ripe cherries, blackberries, dark berries with hints of leather, clove and spices.
On the palate nice mouthfeel, fresh and nicely balanced with medium tannins (because of the youth) and light waxy mouthfeel with a recall of the nose and light cedar, laurel flavours. Nice long finish.
